Why you want them more when they pull away
Distance can make attraction feel stronger.
Scarcity makes people feel more valuable.
When attention becomes inconsistent, it can feel more important than attention that arrives calmly and predictably. The brain often treats scarce reward as more valuable, especially when emotion is already involved.
That does not always mean the connection is deeper. Sometimes it means the uncertainty is doing part of the work. Pulling away creates a gap, and the mind rushes to fill that gap with meaning, hope, and projection.
That is why distance can intensify attraction. It mixes desire with uncertainty, and uncertainty keeps the mind engaged far longer than stable warmth does.
