Why overthinking gets worse in the dark
The same thoughts spiral more easily after sunset.
Darkness reduces input, so the mind starts filling the space itself.
At night there is less noise, less activity, and less interruption. That makes internal thoughts easier to notice and harder to outrun.
Overthinking feeds on available attention. When the outside world quiets down, the loop gets more room to expand and connect itself to other worries.
This does not mean your nighttime thoughts are always more accurate. It often means they have a stronger stage and fewer distractions competing with them.
